Bio

I grew up in Gainesville, Florida where I attended the University of Florida. My major at the UF was Fine Arts: Electronic Intermedia. While I always knew I wanted to work with the arts and computers, it wasn’t until returning to Eastside High School, my high school alma mater, as an employee that I discovered my desire to share my love of art and technology with students. There I worked as a computer lab operator and worked with students and faculty, providing assistance and instruction. Two years later, I moved to Southwest Florida and began my career as a teacher along with my wife who also teaches at the same school as me. I taught reading and art for three years before accepting my current position as a Digital Arts instructor at Diplomat Middle School in Cape Coral, Florida.

Throughout my seven years in the classroom, I have received several awards and recognitions. I was one of thirty-five Golden Apple finalists in 2008 as well as a recipient of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award in 2007. Last year I was recognized as my county’s Middle School Technical and Career Educator of the Year. I feel honored and humbled to be recognized for something I enjoy doing so much. I've been invited to present at this year's Florida Educational Technology Conference on the topic of "Tech Tools for Teachers on a Tight Budget." My mission in my profession is to positively impact as many lives of students as possible. I believe that sharing my knowledge and best practices is one way that I can do so and I look forward to sharing and learning with everyone.

Outside of my profession, I have several hobbies and passions. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, going to museums, drawing and painting, playing piano, video gaming, digital photography, web design, podcasting, and working on other various computer related projects. An avid fan of ska music, I’ve created or maintained several ska music related websites and have developed websites and logos for several musicians and music industry gurus including a former House of Blues production director and tour manager for several “big name” acts. I provide freelance web design and graphic design outside of my music interests as well. I’m currently taking classes toward my Masters of Education with an emphasis on computer education.
